Review this restaurant

Proprietor: Sophie and Matthew Robinson

Head Chef: Matthew Robinson

The Stag Inn is a real champion of fresh, seasonal food with much of the bar and restaurant menus featuring the organic Beef, Pork, Lamb and Poultry produced on the family farm just 5 short miles away in the village of Witheridge. The organic roast rib from the farm packs this cosy village pub to bursting for Sunday lunch. Thoughtfully refurbished, think rustic bar, stripped pine tables and large open fire alongside good honest pub food. The adjoining restaurant features white linen and low ceiling beams and the finest of ingredients simply prepared. The very best in fresh British food.

Further Details

West Yeo Farm
West Yeo Farm is an organic farm in Witheridge, near Tiverton in Devon. Not only are we an organic farm, we are also passionate about conservation.

Beef
We breed Red Ruby Devon cattle here at West Yeo Farm. In 2004 both the Langworthy Moor herd and the Red Down herds where combined here at West Yeo. We breed dark, strong, old fashioned cattle of the traditional type. We do not cross breed with Red Polled or Saler cattle which is a modern trend.
Sheep
The sheep are cross-bred to give the characteristics of excellent, soft, long lustre wool and good carcasses for meat. The ewes are Wensleydale Leicester Longwool cross, with a Pedigree Blue Texel ram giving the excellent conformation.
Pigs
We had always liked the look of Oxford, Sandy and Black pigs but had to travel to Dorset to find some organic ones. Having got started with some weavers we were quickly smitten by both their characters and the excellent flavour of the products.
Poultry
We have always had Welsummer hens free ranging and fed mixed corn, so it seemed sensible to get this production certified by the Soil Association. So in 2005 eggs were added to our list of products.
