Review this restaurant

Proprietor: Chris and James Tanner

The Barbican Kitchen and The Refectory within Blackfriars Distillery combine two of Plymouths best known brands.

Housed in the centuries old building on the Barbican, the home of Plymouth Gin since 1793, you can enjoy the cool and funky informality of the Tanners Brothers latest creation and fantastic food and then retire to the Refectory, Plymouth Gin's contemporary cocktail lounge and the ultimate place to indulge in an exquisite cocktail.

A stylish and unique experience in food and drink!

Further Details

The Blackfriars Distillery has been batch producing Plymouth Gin in the same way since 1793, which makes it the oldest working gin distillery in the world. You can take a guided tour and learn some of the secrets of this award winning gin and then enjoy a gin and tonic or delicious cocktail in the refined setting of the Refectory. This medieval hall dating back to 1431 is the oldest part of the site and has been sympathetically transformed into a stylish cocktail lounge with the stunning original vaulted ceiling above. Interestingly Plymouth, the worlds smoothest Gin, won the premium awards at the San Francisco World Spirits competition in March 2006, winning a Double Gold medal in the Gin category, Best of Show in the Gin category and the coveted Best of Show for White Spirit with its unique smooth taste. With the Barbican Kitchen, The Refectory, the Guided Tour and a Souvenir Shop, the Plymouth Gin Distillery satisfies curiosity, hunger and thirst in equal measure and is an essential port of call while spending time on Plymouths historic Barbican.
