Review this restaurant

Proprietor: Stephen and Julie Earp

This free house in the village of Meavy is a delightful little find, a little pub with a big heart.

Tradition and charm go hand in hand with large open fires, flagstone floors and great, modern British pub food.

A juicy Royal Oak Burger or the Steak and Jail Ale pie for Lunch, Wok cooked Mussels or the Monk Fish and Salmon Kebabs for dinner.

A real winner!

Passionate About Local Produce

With the Beef from Bridget and Arnold Cole at Greenwell Farm in Meavy itself most of the ingredients at the Royal Oak are very local indeed.

Dartmoor farmers and growers are used where possible to produce meat with exceptional flavour and quality having been grass fed and allowed to mature slowly.

A new team of chefs in Tara Pitman and James Roe use all there skill to produce some cracking menus from all that fresh and local produce.

A Little History

The Royal Oak Inn is a free house owned by Burrator Parish Council. It is situated within the Dartmoor National Park, in an idyllic location next to the village green.

The pub is a former 15th-century church house inn. It takes its name from the oak tree on the village green which is reputedly some 800 years old.

This is one of the few remaining traditional pubs, with a flagstone floor, old beams and a large open fireplace. Some of the seats are pews from the adjacent church. And the wood fire provides a warm welcome on those cold winter evenings.
