Further Details
The Hotel has 21 en-suite rooms, decorated throughout in a warm traditional style using decorative wallpapers, antique furniture and tasteful upholstery.
The hotel comprises superior doubles, standard/twin doubles and single rooms which are either located in the main hotel or the former stables which have been lovingly converted to provide additional accommodation.
Many rooms have views over our pretty terraced garden with a 300 year-old cockpit, one of the few remaining in England which is now the hotel’s rod room and fishing tackle shop.
The Arundell Arms Hotel has been one of England’s premier fishing hotels for more than half a century and has 20 miles of its own water on the Tamar and six of its tributaries.
These are spate rivers that rise on the moors and come down to our valleys through woods and farmland, becoming larger, deepening, providing an infinite variety of water, long slow pools, gravelly runs and stickles, fast shallows and open glides.
Pheasant, Partridge, Snipe, Woodcock and Duck
When autumn comes the character of the hotel and the country changes. The fisherman go, the shooting parties arrive with the spaniels and labradors and the talk now by the fire in the bar is of high birds and driven snipe.
There is nothing new about coming to Devon for the shooting - Negley Farson was doing just that in the 1920's, for woodcock, pheasant and black grouse. Were he to return today, he would not find a blackcock, but would be astounded by the quality of the pheasant shooting, for which the country is now famous.
Located within the village of Lifton, near the Devon/Cornwall border The Arundell Arms can offer you a bespoke wedding day which is managed and co-ordinated by the hotel manager and team, ensuring that your special day is tailored to your individual specification.
We are proud, not only of the personal attention and consideration you will receive from everyone at the hotel from the moment you arrive, but of the cooking, which we believe is among the best in England.
Our chef, Steven Pidgeon has the rare honour of being elected a Master Chef of Great Britain, one of only 80 in the country and our restaurant has been awarded top accolades by all the leading guides including the Good Food Guide. Almost all the produce we use is from local suppliers.
