Comments'we stopped in at your restaurant before returning home on sunday evening. i just wanted to say what a fabulous meal we had. the service was excellent, in fact, i was unable to make any decision and so went with the waiters recommendations which were superb. it is rare to go somewhere, were the food is great, the service is great & where the staff have the time and/or inclination to have a joke with children. very impressed - we will be back!''

CommentsThis is the ultimate place to eat in Ilfracombe. It cannot be surpassed. The food is certainly the best in the town and it might also be fair to say this rates with the very best in the south west. Full marks for superb food, beautifully cooked and presented. Lovely decor and atmosphere along with friendly, helpful and efficient service from all the staff. We experienced an evening of great enjoyment and won't hesitate to dine here again. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you to all at Seventy One!

Herbies

Address15 North St , , Exeter
CommentsMy son & I were visiting Exeter for the day from Scotland and wanted a quick, wholesome lunch. We stumbled upon Herbies & had the most delicious lunch. The salads were divine especially the minted cucumber & potato. It was such a good find & I would love to have as good a vegetarian restaurant where we live in Dundee.Neither of us are vegetarian but we loved the food and enjoyed the organic local rose wine. Thank you.

CommentsAn all round lovely experience, the food is beautiful - a good range of local meat, fish and veg. The setting and the view is amazing and very good value. A lunch time menu of £12 for two courses. The staff are very attentive but also are not over baring. We had a lovely meal, which was not rushed and will be recommending this venue to other people.

CommentsThis was a wonderful experience. It was very relaxed and friendly and all the courses were truly delicious and beautifully presented. The starters were really tasty - my husband said the scallops were the best he had ever tasted. For my main course I chose tuna which simply melted in the mouth, and the creme brulee was delicious. The Laughing Monk Restaurant

Restaurant Details
AddressStrete , , Dartmouth
CommentsThe new owners, a charming young husband and wife team from Derbyshire are a relaxed and friendly duo that is gently feeling the way of the current clientele. The lamb in the Lamb Wellington dish was firstly slow cooked in a gentle aromatic sauce then wrapped in a very thin pastry. The presentation was as unique as the natural habitat of the sheep on Dartmoor and truly inspired. To say it was original and natural would be an understatement. To follow, the chocolate fondant tart with a fine fine thin pastry left a memorable richness of texture and taste without having a chocolate oversdose. We are sure that as the couple feel their way and settle into Devon life they will also find a style of decorating the old school house with the Laughing Monk in a way that reflects their feelings about the village, the local producers, the clients and their own personalities. No boutique makeovers here I am sure; these are truly natural people.

Lovely to see old fashioned curtiousness along with good quality, fresh food set amongst a cosy atmosphere. Perfect.

Cafe Restaurant at the Globe Hotel

Restaurant Details
AddressFore Street , Topsham , Exeter
CommentsThis is one of my favourite regular places to go to in Topsham. The fire place in the dining room gives the room a lovely atmopshere and the food is always great. The bar is a great place to drink too, the most reasonably priced in Topsham and has a great selection of wines. The table d'hote menu always has great choices too which are regularly changed so you can go regulary and always get to taste new things. The scallops and the Topsham smokie are two of my favourite starters. The fish platter for mains is fantastic and the crumble for desert is delicious. A great place to take family and / or friends.

CommentsWe went here for my birthday last year and I have to say it was truly fantastic. The atmosphere is great, it's more like being at a dinner party with close friends than actually being out at the restaurant. The service was great and the food was to die for. We had the three courses and I strongly recommend them to anyone who goes there. The portions are great, and every dish a taste sensation! I recommend it to people all the time and we're going again next weekend.

Number Eleven

Restaurant Details
Address11 Bolton Street , , Brixham
CommentsI recently had dinner at no 11, along with some friends. The atmosphere was very relaxed. The menu selection was simple. The fish cakes were tasty and not too large as to put you off your main course. My friends chose fish and chicken which they described as delicious. I opted for the vegetarian option of oven baked pancakes, these were piping hot and very flavoursome. The portion sizes were just right. The staff were friendly and attentive. My only suggestion would be to change the menu a little more often and offer a few more vegetarian options. All in all we enjoyed a good evening out and plan to return soon.

The Quay Restaurant

Restaurant Details
Address11 The Quay , , Ilfracombe
CommentsWe had been looking forward to our visit to The Quay from the moment we found the website. Everything about this restaurant lived up to reputation. The building is fresh, new and interesting. Of course with Damien Hirst as the designer it was bound to be interesting. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table overlooking the harbour. We ordered a glass of wine each and enjoyed pouring over the varied, interesting menu. I chose sea bass and was delighted with my fish. It was cooked perfectly and was drizzled with an interesting light flavoured oil. The hand cut chips were 'heaven'. My husband had duck; also excellent, it was served with a pasrty tartlet filled with ox tail and 'topped' to resemble a whipped ice cream, with piped mashed potato...this combination with a couple of my devine chips, was exciting and delicious. The whole experience of The Quay was wonderful and we look forward to returning to Ilfracombe to visit again soon.

CommentsWe dined in Seventy 1 on our first night of the holiday. The greeting was warm, the menu and drinks came immediately, the food was really excellent. There are only 26 - 30 covers in this bijou restaurant and attention to service, detail and quality means everything to this husband-and-wife team. We enjoyed the food, the wine and the ambiance so much we made a return visit to taste more from the excellent menu. We were not disappointed. We shall be back.

Muddiford Inn & Restaurant

Restaurant Details
Address , Muddiford , Barnstaple
CommentsThe Muddiford Inn is a mere 3 miles from where I live which means that I rather feel it is my local - and what a local! I cannot describe all the dishes I have tasted since I have pretty well been through the menu, but I can say that the quality and presentation of the food here is probably the best I have encountered anywhere. The service is excellent (and always friendly) and the atmosphere is quietly comfortable. Sunday lunch is a must.

The Thirsty Farmer

Restaurant Details
AddressWhimple , , Exeter
CommentsWe rolled into Whimple just ahead of midday yesterday (March 1st 2008) looking for somewhere to have a spot of lunch ahead of a 13:30 wedding in the local church. Wandering through the village a local chap told us the Thirsty Farmer was worth a go, and in just a couple of minutes' walk we found it. One of the staff let us in early - officially it opens at midday but 'I can't leave you hanging about outside' - and we ordered four pints of Firefly and a lemonade for my son, before getting down to the menu itself. The goulash was excellent, the lasagna ditto, the beer was absolutely top notch and the ambience made us want to settle in for a session - the pub really has that comfy aura about it. There was the matter of a wedding to attend though...I come from a village where the local pubs are just so-so at best. This is the sort of place that makes you think about local property prices. Thoroughly recommended.

The Vanilla Pod Restaurant at the Cridford Inn

Restaurant Details
AddressTrusham , Teign Valley , Newton Abbot
CommentsFrom the moment I walked into the Cridford Inn I knew we were going to have a good time. The bar retained it's olde worlde charm whereas the restaurant decor was smart and sophisticated but still sympathetic to the buildings history. The atmosphere was very friendly and the staff couldn't do more to help. The meal in the evening was superb and the service couldn't be faulted. I am vegetarian and found the vegetarian options full of taste and very satisfying. I even asked Ian how he managed to make his butternut squah so creamy on the inside. The atmosphere in the restaurant was informal and I would recommend it for any celebration or romantic meal.

CommentsWe had an excellent meal at the Muddiford Inn which we chose for our Xmas office party. The bar and atmosphere in the restaurant is warm and friendly as well as being stylish and food of a very high standard. The Xmas menu included the best prawn cocktail I have ever eaten! followed by Duck confit in a delicious sauce and fantastic desserts - mine was heaven, vanilla cheesecake with ginger crumble. They even gave us a cheeseboard plus plenty of festive trimmings. It was the best Xmas meal ever! Certainly not the normal dried turkey and Xmas pud you would expect. We are looking forward to our next visit for their special 8 course Valentine's menu, can't wait. A bottle of bubbly would be even better!

Favourites include the fish dishes, the kleftico and the rustic Italian dishes. The decor is tasteful and the atmosphere friendly. We love it!

AddressBrandis Corner , , Holsworthy
CommentsWe discovered the Bickford Arms during our recent move to Devon and have thoroughly enjoyed our dining and overnight stay experiences there. The owners and staff are friendly and helpful, the bedrooms lovely, and the locally sourced food is delicious. We also recommend their Christmas delicacies including the mouthwatering truffles and outstanding Christmas pudding which is the finest our families have ever tasted!

Nautilus Seafood Restaurant

Restaurant Details
Address34 Brunswick Street , , Teignmouth
CommentsFantastic food, excellent staff and very friendly ambience - I have used this restaurant when in the company of my husband and with friends and family and each time we have all been extremely satisfied with the quality, quantity and cost of food and wine. The house wine is very good, whilst the mussels are to die for and tapas night mid week is an absolute luxury - choosing two different dishes each is a wonderful opportunity to sample a delicious delight that you may not have tried previously. Ten out of ten and it comes highly recommended - when you are in Teignmouth pop in and try it - you won't regret it.

The Old Brewery Restaurant No 45

Restaurant Details
Address45 High Street , , Dawlish
CommentsIf you want a first class restaurant with a haute cuisine menu at reasonable prices you can not beat "The Old Brewery" in Dawlish. The old world ambience created by the original stone floors and walls, candles, fresh flowers and real fire makes for an enjoyable evening, with fresh food cooked to order by their award winning chef. There are two menus, The Restaurant and The Bar both equally as good. Fully Licensced bar with a good selection of stock, the wine list is excellent house wine is available or you can choose from their vast cellar selection. If you prefer to drink locally brewed beers why not try their own specially brewed No 45 Bitter it is an excellent choice. To finish off your evening why not try Dirks Home-made chocolate selection with a coffee or liqueur.

No 21 Cathedral Yard

Restaurant Details
AddressCathedral Yard , , Exeter
CommentsWe arrived for an early evening meal, and saw that the restaurant was pretty quiet for a Saturday. But it soon filled up, and many of the late-coming, passers-by were turned away! Linda has organised some excellent service: polite, unfussy, efficient and our meal offered some seriously good quality food for a very reasonable price. Look out for the crab lollipop, and don't miss the house speciality dessert: lime-leaf creme-brulee with ginger and chilli sorbet!!! WOW! We will certainly visit again.

Garden Restaurant at the Miners Arms

Restaurant Details
AddressHemerdon , , Plymouth
CommentsThis is one of our favourite pubs / restaurants. The food is fantastic, whether its a lunchtime or dinnertime, the portions are generous and the choice is really original, plus the presentation is of a very high standard. The fact that the owners have invested in and built a brand new fenced off play area is a bonus for families, and eating and drinking in the pub, the restaurant or outside is a pleasure. One of our highlight visits in 2006 was celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary with a fab meal then meeting friends in the bar for carols by firelight, it was a riot, the punters really got into it there was a bit of a competition going between those in the snug and those in the main bar! well done Paul and Hannah and thanks for looking after us and feeding us so well!

The Pizza Cafe

Restaurant Details
Address50 Queen Street , , Newton Abbot
CommentsA group of us go to The Pizza Cafe every 6-8weeks for an evening meal: we have never been disappointed. The premises are clean and upbeat, all staff are polite and helpful, and the food? Lovely! What to eat is always a talking point at work, and the days before our night out are spent in discussions of the menu-and then we usually have the same meal each time. I have taken my children to eat there, and they love it, too. It feels like our local, although I live ten miles away. I cannot recommend it enough.

Harrys Restaurant

Address86, Longbrook Street , , Exeter
CommentsHaving eaten at Harrys several times now, it's always my first choice when I want to eat out in Exeter. I consider myself quite a fussy eater, yet Harrys menu is so varied there's always a wide range of dishes to suit my tastes. They cater for all diets, from the meat-eaters to the veggies in my family, along with specific dietary requirements e.g.coeliacs. I wouldn't eat anywhere else!
