| Address | Combeintiegnhead , , Torquay | | Comments | Booked in for a Valentines meal with my wife. We wanted a cosy, traditionl feeling country tavern with an open fire a great food. It delivers in both areas. Traditionally cooked foods like Beef in red wine, fresh fish dishes, mussels and steaks, and were also offering a free bottle of wine when you ordered 2 courses. Good value for a lovely evening. With drinks and 3 courses £55 for two. Would reccommend. | |   | Posted by Mr Scott on 2010-02-18 20:13:07 |
| Address | 36 -37 South Street , , Exeter | | Comments | My husband and I booked a table last Saturday at El Bocado, although I was unfamiliar with both its menu and atmosphere, I was excited to experience El Bocados Spanish cuisine. The menu itself had a wonderful array of authentic dishes to choose from. All of our Tapas came promptly, warm and tasting delicious in the typical brown ceramic cazuelas that are inherent to any Spanish dish. I was thoroughly impressed with their fabulous and diverse Spanish wine selection, why would you want to taste any other wine in a Spanish restaurant. As for ambiance and service, I felt it was very warm and friendly. For their service, I felt as if they left us in peace without feeling as if I had been forgotten. And when I asked questions of my waiter about both the food and wine menu, I felt he was very amicable and swift at aiding us to come to an informed decision without being pushy or overbearing. In the end, I would certinaly recommend El Bocado. I feel that anyone would thoroughly enjoy the experience, while getting a small taste of Spain. I look forward to eating there again very soon.

| Address | 31 East Street , , Crediton | | Comments | After my first time eating at Richies Bistro it instantly went to the top of my list for places to go and eat of an evening. I'm fortunate enough to live 5 minutes walk away from it, but if i lived even as far a field as exeter i would make the effort to spend a lovely evening dining here. The food is beautifully presented and the flavours were full of surprises, the vegetables were steamed or drizzled in lemon or something to add a kick to your greens! The steak peppercorn sauce infused with 'pink' peppercorns giving the most wonderful sensation to your taste buds. Of course for me, the experience is about how you feel and how you are greeted. It's a cosy little space and it's used well. Caroline is a wonderful host making you unwind and leave feeling content and full. She always asks after our one year old daughter and expresses that she would love for us to bring her along to our next meal with them - which is wonderful to know we have somewhere to go on our doorstep with our daughter to enjoy good food! Upon my visit this evening they had some new photography hanging on the walls courtesy of the Crediton photography club. I was absolutely in awe at the unique perspective the images had to offer of the beautiful countryside that surrounds us in Devon. I look forward to my next experience and to be updated on the revamping of the place! | |   | Posted by Miss C B on 2010-02-18 01:58:42 |
| Address | 36 -37 South Street , , Exeter | | Comments | Absolutely fantastic, we've been twice now and cannot fault it.
Best tapas I've eaten, much better than the tapas served up in most of the restaurants in Spain! Reasonably priced quality food and do try the ice cream it's to die for!!!

| Address | 63 Fore St , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | La Gendarmerie was recommended to us by our hosts Sandie an Dave Meek of Burnsideside Guest House.
We were greeted at the door by a friendly and welcoming member of the staff, who took our coats.
Right from the start we knew we were in for a good night, the surroundings were warm and comfortable, with music quietly being played. We were given a choice of tables which was unexpected, normally your told where to sit in restaurants. We wasn't rushed in our menu choices and made to feel welcomed.
My partner and I ordered drinks and made our menu choices. I can honestly say that the food here was to say the least ....AMAZING!! It was fresh, and VERY tasty. The menu was varied and obviously made with fresh ingrdients, which was shown by the open kitchen. Myself an my partner would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant to anybody visiting Ilfracombe, an would definately return. The food was fantastic, staff very polite and VERY reasonable in price. It was also very nice to be given a complimentary drink after our meal.

| Address | 15 The Quay , , Brixham | | Comments | What a lovely time my husband and I have had over the last few days having travelled down South from Shropshire. Brixham holds lots of good childhood memories and we are pleased to say friends of ours have now moved to the area - how lucky they are. We met up with them at one of their favourite restaurants - No 15 and were certainly not disappointed. A very warm and friendly greeting was given, followed by excellent service and really great fish! We will be back. | |   | Posted by Elizabeth Biddulph on 2010-02-07 18:32:45 |

The food is always presented well and they alway use fresh produce. I have sampled their menu from Breakfasts through to Pancakes or just a coffee and toast. I would recommend that this is one of the best daytime places to eat with a very friendly atmosphere. | |   | Posted by Lisa Buley on 2010-02-06 14:10:53 |

| Address | 31 East Street , , Crediton | | Comments | Richie’s Bistro is one of the best culinary experiences I have had in a long time. The atmosphere is warm and friendly; co owners Richie and Caroline made us feel very welcome and provided some excellent choices in their varied and menu. These included mozzarella and spinach ravioli, exceptional mouth watering steaks and my favourite, sticky toffee pudding. We will return as soon as possible. | Address | Bampton Street , , Tiverton | | Comments | I went to the Twyford on Friday 21st Janury, I had the 8oz peppered steak with chips and peas, and i must say that it was the best peppered steak i have ever had. The steak was cooked to perfection, the peppercorn sauce was creamy and rich but not to hot. The price was very fair for the meal, in fact i would of expected to pay more for it. The service was very good, always smiling and very polite. I will be eating here much more now. Looking foward to my next meal. | |   | Posted by Gareth Baggot on 2010-01-25 14:12:15 |
| Address | Quay Road , The Barbican , Plymouth | | Comments | We were staying in Plymouth for the weekend so took our chances and had a wander round the Barbican for a bite to eat. How glad we were that we stumbled across the Watering Hole on the saturday night. We had the last table left, which was a window seat in the restaurant with views over the harbour. I enjoyed a scrumptious Steak Burger and sumo chips, whilst my girlfriend had a 'melt in the mouth' steak. Pudding was very nice to. Staff were friendly, efficient and very attentive. The whole meal and ambience made for a very pleasurable saturday night in Plymouth. | |   | Posted by Andy Kelly on 2010-01-24 22:03:09 |

Very friendly staff, good guiness, but you want to know about the food,well.........I think I have just had the best garlic bread possible, followed by an outstanding steak sandwich. Just wished I was local so I could try everything else.

| Address | 34 Brunswick Street , , Teignmouth | | Comments | We often eat at theis wonderful restaurant as it is close to where my parents live and it represents great value for money (which is important to them) and a wonderful menu (which is important to me). The seafood specials are a real treat and the newly introduced cocktail list adds spice to an evening out. Coming from London I really appreciate the ambiance and care shown by the friendly staff, it is always a treat to eat here and I look forward to my next visit with real pleasure.

| Address | Station Road , Exton , Exeter | | Comments | The Puffing Billy in the village of Exton is a restaurant not to be missed if you are in the Exeter area. From the excellent welcome from the new (Nov 2009) trainee manager, to the service and tremendous value for money top class food, this one will be hard to beat. Good wine list as well. Highly recommended - nothing too much trouble. | |   | Posted by Mike Trapp on 2009-11-18 14:41:39 |

Well, what can i say about the chefs, the food was stunning from presentation it couldnt have got much better, but when you started eating you just want to give the chef a hug for producing such excellent food. So thank you, i have never enjoyed a meal as much i can honestly say, and anyone looking for an evening out should really try this, and i bet after you will feel the same, thankyou once again x | |   | Posted by sasha moore on 2009-11-18 00:02:04 |
| Address | 64b Fore Street , , Brixham | | Comments | My wife and I and a couple of friends were spending a long weekend in Torquay Devon, we visited Brixham and searched for a place to have Sunday lunch. We found Pilgrims and could not believe our luck in finding such friendly service Diane the host put two tables together for us, the meals were fantastic our friends had the Sunday roast and we had the fish of the day, which was Salmon cutlet with Prawns and leaks in white sauce and all the meals had freshly cooked vegetables. We can thoroughly recommend this Restaurant and beautiful food. Bert & Joyce Cooper. | |   | Posted by Bert Cooper on 2009-11-17 14:17:37 |

Myself and a party of friends ate here on a stormy night in november and it was so worth the effort of braving the elements!! Our food was really excellent, the stroganoff and chilli duck were to die for. Will be going back again for sure. | |   | Posted by claire bevan on 2009-11-16 13:35:40 |
| Address | Northfield Road , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | My wife and I spent a very pleasant evening here for my birthday on Friday. Waitress was pleasant and took time to speak to the chef about how my wife wanted her steak cooked (as opposed to 'well done' which can come up in so many different guises). Although not cheap, we felt it good value. Everything was piping hot and steaks were good. I made the mistake of ordereing the cheese board. Next time I want cheese at this establishment, I will skip the starter and main course!
Thanks for an enjoyable evening.

We were surprised because if you judged the place from the outside, you'd think it was modern but average, but the food is excellent and there is a high standard of customer care. I have to say that the food was extremely good, service first class and an excellent ambiance. After the meal we were able to continue our discussions without being rushed out despite it being busy. At the request of the supplier further meetings are to be held at Seawings. The views on a stormy day are as invigorating as they are beautiful on a sunny day. We were put on the top floor as that was the only space for 7 people, it was a bit on the warm side as it was above the kitchen but it didn't matter as the staff were lovely and the food DELICIOUS. The best I've had in Totnes. We'll be back next time we're on our hols. | |   | Posted by Laura on 2009-10-05 16:49:05 |

| Address | 71 Fore Street , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | I came across this restaurant by chance when I was looking for somewhere to have dinner. The menu outside looked good, but not spectacular, but I liked the look of it so went in. I have a small appetite so had two starters, each of which were truly excellent: crab rolls with a spicy dip and goats cheese tart. I liked the way you could watch the chef prepare the food in the open-fronted kitchen. I checked other diners' main meal choices and they seemed more than happy. I'd come here again. | |   | Posted by Hilary Bradt on 2009-09-25 18:36:29 |

| Address | , , Exeter | | Comments | As an occasional food writer for Devon newspapers and magazines I have to say that I was looking forward to visiting this restaurant with interest, having read various reviews from other parties. My husband and I and various friends dine out all over Devon, usually following recommendations and reviews. To say that this restauarant did not disappoint was an understatement. Outstanding food on every count, a Champagne and Wine selection that was faultless and not at a ridiculous price, and service that complimented the food standard. If I could fault the pub at all, it was purely that our wine was not opened at the table, and the addition of candles that we requested, transformed the corner table. Would write in detail were it appropriate. | |   | Posted by helen scull on 2009-09-18 13:03:11 |

| Address | 15 Regent Street , , Teignmouth | | Comments | The colosseum is to my mind the best Italian restaurant on the South West coast. Franco comes from southern Italy and this is reflected in his style of cooking.
My family now regularly dine there after discovering it some two years ago and we are constantly impressed by the new dishes that he creates, one day it might be freshly grilled sea bream the next some pistachio ice cream (his mothers recipe). Overall there is plenty of choice for everyone and the portions are excellent and freshly made on the day, the staff are ever helpful in explaining the various dishes and make a fine contribution to your dining experience. If you happen to have sufficient room after your main course try his Crepes Suzettes they are really out of this world. On a personal note my wife never touched mussels for some 20 years after having a bad experience with them, Franco persuaded her to try some, now mussels are one of her favourite dishes | |   | Posted by Bill on 2009-09-15 11:22:40 |

The food here is fantastic, I would particularly recommend the salmon. Everything is served hot and very fresh. A large variety of wines are also available. All that is left to say is the table service is brilliant, very helpful and bubbly. This is an intimate restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. | Address | 15 Regent Street , , Teignmouth | | Comments | My husband, Barrie, and I spent a lovely afternoon at this restaurant last week after arriving for a day out on the train. We got to the restaurant at 2.50 p.m., just before they finished lunches at 3 p.m. but they could not have been more hospitable and we were made to feel very welcome. We had the fresh mussels to start with - excllent! I had the Gnocchi Gorgonzola - lovely cheesy sauce. Barrie had the seafood lasagne which he enjoyed very much. The food, wine and ambience were all excellent and we felt as if we had been on a mini trip to Italy for the day. The service was perfect, unhurried and relaxed. I especially loved the chocolate mousse dessert which was delicious. I noticed that the staff were equally welcoming to people who just wanted to pop in for a coffee. If only we lived nearer, I could see us eating there more often. Well done to Franco for making our day and reinforcing our view that Italian food is the best!! | |   | Posted by Angela Williams on 2009-09-15 11:17:21 |

It was a sunny day, the ambience was Mediterranean. The owner, Franco, served us, and was very kind and advisory to the two boys. Our meals were served quickly, and the food was delicious. Both starters and mains were reasonably priced for the high quality of the food. The staff were friendly and helpful. I would reccomend the whole Lemon sole and scallops too. The food was superb and the service and setting were also excellent. Try to save a space for puddings (if you can!), they are a delight! | Address | Northfield Road , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | After this restaurant was highly recommended by the owner of the Lakeside kennels, we decided to visit one Thursday night.
It must be said that this place was a real treat, sumptious food cooked to perfection, my son who has Aspergers Syndrome likes chips and what chips they were, large and chunky a real treat for him, me and my other son decided on the rib of beef with vegetables all cooked just as we like them with a varied choice and no way could either of us finish the beef off! my wife went for the vegatable Lasagne again a real treat. We would urge anyone who enjoys superb food the kind that not many places could match, to visit the Clarets, you will not see food as good as this in a long time. The staff were attentive but not overbearing, we will come back to Ilfracombe and this resteruant will be the first place we will head for, well done Clarets! | |   | Posted by Andrew Livesey. on 2009-09-02 20:51:37 |

| Address | 343 Totnes Road , , Paignton | | Comments | We have just spent 10 days in Devon and three times we visited the Parkers Arms. It doesn't look that great from the road but we decided to try it anyway, and were pleasantly surprised inside. The staff were friendly and the steak was the best I've had in a long time. So much so that I had to go back for another which was just as good. The bingo made for a lively evening too. We also went in for the sunday carvery , which was as good as we have had anywhere. | |   | Posted by sean on 2009-09-02 19:52:44 |
| Address | Malmsmead, , Oare, , Lynmouth | | Comments | We often go to this heavenly location and enjoy the wonderful and generous hospitality of Bob and Gillie at the Buttery, we would especially recommend the Pizzas which are just as good as those found in Italy, (my brother lives in Como, i'm a regular pizza muncher) Bob's salad dressing is like no other and remains my fav worldwide. If you ever get the chance to visit grab it. | |   | Posted by Jane Farthing on 2009-09-02 04:00:21 |

| Address | 64b Fore Street , , Brixham | | Comments | Found this restaurant quite by accident whilst wandering round Brixham looking for a decent meal on a summer Friday evening (21/08/09) So glad that we did! The meals were priced at "2 for 1" &, boy, were they worth it! I had chicken breast stuffed with herb & mushroom pate with plenty of fresh, seasonal veg on the side. My husband had duck & king prawn with veg & noodles in oyster sauce. There was also a fair vegetarian selection plus a decent choice of starters & puddings - we shared a cheese platter. The wine was reasonably priced & the service was friendly & attentive without being too overbearing. Upon ordering, we were informed that we'd probably have to wait half an hour but the food arrived within 20 mins. The restaurant was two thirds full so maybe when very busy the wait would be half an hour but at least they have the courtesy to warn you! All in all, a hidden gem of a restaurant (with spotless loos) serving quality meals.
I can happily recommend The Pilgrim's reaturant. | |   | Posted by Angela May on 2009-08-26 19:21:45 |

| Address | The Strand , , Barnstaple | | Comments | My family (5 / 6 people) ate at The Old Custom House for dinner and a lunch during our summer holiday. We found the food imaginative (e.g. cinnamon parfait) and exceptionally well prepared (e.g. a crab bisque that was both light and intense) and the service was attentive and friendly without being over the top. Our visit for lunch offered them a real challenge (I won’t tell you how as I’m sure they’d never want anyone to do this again!) but the staff went well beyond the call of duty in their kindness and consideration. Their approach to lunch is good fun too. They serve a number of dishes, all priced at £4 and you can order as many or as few as you like. Each was beautifully presented and delicious. We devoured ours! For the quality of the food, the prices are fantastic. Dinner for six, not counting wine was £150 and lunch for five was £70. This was outstanding value. The downstairs of the restaurant is a lovely place to sit, eat, drink and watch the goings on by the river. On both occasions we ate here we all came away with the impression that the front of house and the kitchen were trying very hard to impress, and they certainly succeeded with us. Thank you, and good luck! | |   | Posted by Peter Robinson on 2009-08-22 21:08:04 |

| Address | Village Road , Marldon , Torquay | | Comments | Just had a very rainy week in Devon. The highlight to our visit was finding this amazing 15th century beautiful Inn. We had the most fantastic meal, superbly presented, extremely tasty and very reasonably priced! Everything, including their sauces are 'home cooked' and you can definitely tell. We enjoyed our meals so much, that we actually returned the next night to try some of their other dishes! The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. Overall, visiting this pub/restaurant was one of the highlights. If we return to Devon we will most certainly return here and will recommend it to our friends!! Thanks everyone at this Inn, oh, it was great to share the 'ghost stories'!!!!!! X | |   | Posted by LAURA BLEASE on 2009-08-07 21:29:06 |

| Address | , Muddiford , Barnstaple | | Comments | Upon the recommendation of a local friend we decided to celebrate the 50th wedding anniversary of my husband's parents at the Muddiford Inn & Restaurant. From the moment we established our initial contact with Pearl (who I believe co-owns & runs the place) I have nothing but praise for the Inn. From the welcome drinks through to the special cake, any and all of our needs and wants were happily incorporated and catered to to ensure a great evening was had by one and all. The food was of outstanding quality and the service was superb.
Unfortunatly, this restaurant is not closer to where we live (Singapore), otherwise we would be sure to visit it on a regular basis.
Many thanks again to Pearl and everybody involved with making this a very special evening. | |   | Posted by Astrid Morgan on 2009-08-04 04:14:07 |
| Address | 6 The Parade , Old Fore Street , Sidmouth | | Comments | Busy Folk Festival Sunday, my husband fancied a burger but we didn't relish standing in the street eating a takeaway mass produced burger when I remembered this place in Old Ford Street. We were not disappointed. My husband said his burger was really delicious, home made, tasty, not oversalted which is often the case. I had the tart which was light and tasty. The coleslaw was divine, plenty of ingredients with just the right amount of dressing. Staff were great too. We'll be back. | |   | Posted by Yvonne Turner on 2009-08-02 21:44:31 |

You would have to travel a long way to find a restaurant that combines a lovely atmosphere, attentive waitresses, value for money and best of all exceedingly good food. Alex chose the signature dish of ham and eggs and was delighted with the generous slabs of home cooked ham coupled with two perfect eggs and some chips. | Address | Stokeinteignhead , , Torquay | | Comments | We have recently purchased a cottage in Stokeinteignhead, near Torquay and one of the "musts" for us was a good local pub serving great food. There will be no disappointments here, Gavin and Chantal offer a warm welcome at the Church House Inn in the village. We recently had a "special" evening meal there - our starter was scallops done in a delicious garlic sauce although I was tempted by the large range of Teign Mussels - next time maybe. My other half opted for rump of lamb which was really succulent and tasty and served just right - slightly pink with a great range of vegetables. I had the Rib Eye steak which was equally delicious, and there is a wonderful choice of sauces if you fancy one.
Although somewhat full we couldn't resist the chef's own recipe choc chip cheesecake which is to die for! The prices are really competitive and there is a kids menu too. Unable to resist, we went back for Sunday lunch and with 3 courses at £10 on special at the moment, what fantastic value and fantastic food. The beer is great too, the other half says - real ales including local Otter. We eat there as much as we can - on every visit and may long it continue! They get busy though, so book - 01626 872476. | |   | Posted by Christine Napthine on 2009-07-28 08:36:46 |

Atmosphere is great, food cannot be matched and for those looking for value without losing quality this is the place for you. In Brixham this Restaurant accepts children which is hard to find in the area and so very good to know for families wanting a night out. | Address | 64b Fore Street , , Brixham | | Comments | As a family we were looking on the internet for a Restaurant in Brixham while we were on holiday there. We wanted a place that gave us a good price deal as well as a good selective menu; we decided that Pilgrims was our choice. The deal that attracted us was the 2 for 1 on all main meals. The soft drinks were priced very reasonable and the wine selection was also good. We frequented Pilgrims throughout the week starting with a Sunday lunch which was a very good price and suits the family pocket if you don't want to do as much cooking as home. There was a very good menu choice. The dishes were excellent in presentation, very well cooked and good portions. We also sampled a few of the evening menus and the choice was far wider than expected, brilliant selection of fine dinning meals all extremely tasty and again excellent in the presentation and so well cooked. Thanks to the chef David Sicobo for all your hard work and for making sure freshness is a big part of your menu. Also thank you to Diane John and her waitresses for all your excellent service throughout the week. | |   | Posted by The Evans Family on 2009-07-15 20:16:25 |

The Breakwater Bistro, Brixham is everything you always hope you will find in a beach cafe when you are at the seaside, but rarely do. In a lovely location overlooking the marina at Brixham and located away from the fish port, this place is a real find. Really excellent quality fresh seafood at sensible prices - Crab Salad and Chunky Chips was absolutely spot on. | Address | The Strand , , Barnstaple | | Comments | My wife Lynn and I found James Duckett's The Old Custom House Restaurant on the Internet. On arrival, we were met by front of house and was then struck by the warm and friendly atmosphere. A good wine list, excellently put together to form the start of and an accompaniment to the menu.
The excellent front of house was of course knowledgable and informative on the menu on the day. The amuse bouche wetted the appetite for the main course of Jon Dory. I love fish so selecting the Jon Dory was an obvious choice and did not dissapoint. We finished off the meal with a selection of cheeses, though the sweets on offer did tempt!!
We were pleased to find The Old Customs house - James Duckett and his staff are clearly "foodies" and anyone with an interest in great food should try this place - like us you will be impressed. | |   | Posted by Paul & Lynn Parsons on 2009-07-13 22:10:04 |

| Address | 5 St Andrews Rd , , Exmouth | | Comments | “A super little find" does not do the Manor Cottage Restaurant justice. This delightful place is a must for anyone looking for excellent food in a friendly, uncrowded atmosphere. A drink and a friendly chat with Anita in the bar as she divulged the detail of the local, fresh produce on the menu set the scene for the following marvelous experience for the taste buds. Two courses are normally enough for us so we went straight for the lamb and gammon as main courses. The cuts of prime meat were cooked to perfection and set off with a wonderful array of fresh vegetables with the lamb and salad with the gammon. Most of our conversation throughout the meal was regarding how tasty each mouthful was. The lamb nestled on a bed of mash to the fresh carrot, broad bean or swede accompaniments were all outstanding and my wife says the same for the gammon accompanied by chunky chips and salad. Spoilt for choice from the home-made desserts menu my wife went for the banoffee pie and I chose the treacle tart – again I am lost to recall a better choice of dessert. With custard and ice cream I do appreciate the request for clotted cream may have been a little greedy but it was my birthday after all ! From the initial welcome to the final farewell our visit was an outstanding experience with wonderful hosts and perfectly cooked and very tasty food my wife and I both agree the meal was one of the best we have ever eaten. You will not be disappointed if you travel to Exmouth just to eat at the Manor Cottage Restaurant.

| Address | 162 Exeter Street , , Plymouth | | Comments | 2 friends and I arrived at the welcoming restaurant HEAVEN, and were met by a very friendly chap, who gave us a choice of tables, then explained a new menu for £15 which included 3 courses, I had the smoked salmon pate with horseradish cream followed by a rib eye steak in a peppercorn sauce, and for pudding a cheesecake, now this sounds somewhat usual fare for a plymouth restaurant, however the quality of the ingredients and the execution of the dishes was outstanding, the presentation was also superb, and was matched by the quality decor of the restaurant. I would have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone, its by far the best meal I have had in the southwest for a year | |   | Posted by Susan Gartrell on 2009-07-09 19:57:27 |

Well worth a visit and I will definitely be eating there again next time I'm in the area. Don't be put off by the exterior (it looks a bit rough/pubby for ladies) as the courtyard garden is very pleasant. | |   | Posted by Jan Morgan on 2009-07-06 13:26:40 |

| Address | 64b Fore Street , , Brixham | | Comments | We first found Pilgrim's in 2005 when it was under different ownership. We had such a lovely meal then that we promised ourselves that when we made it back to Brixham we would visit again. We came for dinner on Sunday 28th June and yes, it was just as we remembered although 'Fine Dining' has gone it is nevertheless great food and the 2 for 1 offer is a great incentive. The food was superb and it was so nice to be able to chat with our friendly host Diane. So well done to Pilgrims! If you are in Brixham you must put this restaurant on your wish list. | |   | Posted by Grant and Amanda Reid on 2009-07-05 09:57:05 |

The prices are also very reasonable. We paid £53 for a three course dinner for two with drinks and coffee. The setting at Mountbatten is also very special. We will definetly go again when visiting Plymouth. | |   | Posted by mike cooper on 2009-07-05 08:53:50 |
| Address | 20 Fore Street , , Bovey Tracey | | Comments | On entering the Old Cottage Tea rooms at Bovey Tracey one is almost compelled to look for Miss Marple sitting at her usual table, so archetypal is the décor and ambiance to one’s visualisation of what a village tea rooms should be. Ann and I have used the Old Cottage for so many years that we have become friends with Louise, the proprietor, and her staff and their cheerful good humour is almost the main reason that we keep going back. I say almost because the other almost equal reason is for the excellent coffee and for the biggest and best toasted tea cakes in South Devon. We thoroughly recommend that you try a sample of both!!!. Ann and Dennis Woodroffe, Kingskerswell, Devon.

I ended up dining there every night of the week. As a lover of fresh fish I felt like a kid in a candy shop, the fish was so fresh with such a wide selection of truly wonderful dishes. I am going back in a few days time so I can't wait to book my table for the week. The staff were delightful and very helpful. Price was really very reasonable as this is the best sea food restaurant I have found anywhere. Rick Stein eat your heart out! Don't miss this if you are anywhere near, You will never regret it. | Address | Higher Esplanade , , Paignton | | Comments | This is a hidden gem in paignton, a town that does not have many places that serve good home cooked food except for a couple of good indians. The food at shoreline is very good value, home cooked and very tasty. We had the home made lasagne & home made mousakka tonight & couldnt fault the food. We had an excellent time & would recommend trying it as you wont be disappointed. The view is also superb. | |   | Posted by steve Knight on 2009-06-19 23:37:37 |

This time I took my mother who, at the age of 75, had never eaten at a Tapas restaurant. She loved it. She loved the food, the service, eating outside under a warmed umbrella - everything. Even the price! A perfect start to a lovely evening at the Landmark followed by a fantastic firework display.

| Address | The Strand , , Barnstaple | | Comments | If you want perfection, then try James Duckett’s Restaurant, ‘The Old Custom House’ in Barnstaple. The Front of House Staff are welcoming and efficient, and the food not only delicious but exquisitely presented. At Lunch time there is an extremely reasonably priced menu, where you can choose as much or as little as you wish, and the Dinner menu provides anyone with a glorious evening out.
James Duckett is not just a superb Chef, he oversees every aspect of his Restaurant, including meeting his customers, which gives ‘The Old Custom House’ a very personal atmosphere. We cannot recommend it highly enough, it is not just a wonderful Restaurant, it is an experience to go there.

| Address | Unit 1 Penrose House , Lockyers Quay , Plymouth | | Comments | Good food in a very attractive restaurant. The menu is extensive and we both thoroughly enjoyed both our starter and main course. The portions were generous and left us no room for a desert course and the wine was enjoyable. At £60 for the two of us, which included coffee and gratuity, it was good value and we highly recommend this restaurant. As a vegetarian I was pleased to find such a wide choice of vegetarian starters and mains. | |   | Posted by Tony and Wendy on 2009-06-16 08:39:50 |
| Address | Fore Street, Luton , Chudleigh , Newton Abbot | | Comments | We arrived at one of the busiest times on Sunday but were still able to find parking at this very popular pub. Upon arrival we were seated quickly and found that our request for a high chair for our son had been noted and was ready at the table. The Teignworthy beer was very well kept and on its own worth recommending. Our meals were very pleasant and the meat very well cooked, it was nice to see that the meat had been sourced from local farms. The service was excellent and we were well looked after. We definately will go back. | |   | Posted by Matt Bryan on 2009-06-15 22:10:44 |
| Address | 15 The Quay , , Brixham | | Comments | On a recent holiday which encompassed Brixham, my fiancee and I were looking for somewhere to have our evening meal and were resolved to having fish and chips or pub grub, when we saw No. 15. The menu looked appetising so we decided to try the restaurant. Inside the atmosphere was very inviting with picturesque views across the quay. The waiter who served us was very polite and was very knowledgeable about the drinks that the restaurant served. My partner ordered the moules mariniere and I had the dressed crab. Both portions were delightful. The moule mariniere was served in a creamy sauce with onion and garlic which my financee tells me was delicious. My crab was equally wonderful, served with salad and a sliced baguette. For dessert we had creme brulee with rhubarb and I had a white chocolate torte. The creme brulee was wonderfully presented and delicious. My chocolate torte was amazingly creamy and rich, (but not too much so). We did not have coffee or any more to eat or drink as we did not want to over indulge and spoil a truly gastronomic treat. We will definitely be eating there again on our next visit and would encourage anyone reading this to do the same as No. 15 must be Brixham's number 1 fish restaurant. | |   | Posted by Mr I Miller on 2009-06-15 18:23:56 |

The staff were knowledgable and welcoming, and the food imaginative and very tasty. In fact we enjoyed our dinner so much we went back on Sunday lunchtime for a roast. | Address | 62 Fore St , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | We visited the restaurant a few weeks ago while we were staying in Ilfracombe, we had read and heard good reports so decided to try it, we were not disappointed. We had a lovely evening, the food was great, lots of choice, something for everyone, the wine was execellent and the staff were friendly and willing to spend time talking to us to suggest what we might like to try (and letting us try the wine before we ordered)!!! We were so full after the many tapas and wonderful olives that we shared the chocolate dessert, which was lovely. Next time we are in the Ilfracombe area we will return to enjoy the tapas in this lovely little restaurant | |   | Posted by Carol Crew on 2009-06-12 13:07:59 |
| Address | 5 St Andrews Rd , , Exmouth | | Comments | As regular diners at this excellent restaurant, it is a delight to find new and unusual dishes on the menu. On a recent visit, after relaxing in the lounge bar, we each began our meal with a whole pear poached in special reserve port, stuffed with a Devon Blue cheese mousse and served on a celeriac coleslaw salad. It was delicious and we could overhear appreciative comments from other diners with the same choice. To follow, I had prime fillet of West Country pork roasted in fresh garden herbs, with caraway cabbage and a butterbean puree, drizzled with herb butter. The combination of flavours was inspired. My husband chose a classic chicken pie with puff pastry with a creamy sauce which looked, and, I was assured, was delicious. These were accompanied by new potatoes and a dish of broccoli, swede and carrots. All ingredients are freshly sourced and prepared by chefs Stuart and Andrew each day. The desserts are all homemade and we both indulged in crème caramel, although, as my husband was diabetic, he was offered a freshly made fruit salad! To round off our repast, a cappuccino and, for me, a decaffeinated double espresso, were just the thing. Several of the other diners took the opportunity to enjoy the evening sun in the tranquil walled garden of Manor Cottage. The proprietors, Anita and Stuart, deserve congratulations for the standards they have achieved in just over one year, and we look forward to many more superb meals and congenial company at the Manor Cottage Restaurant.

| Address | St James Place , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | We had a short stay in Ilfracombe recently, taking advantage of the gorgeous weather, based at a fantastic b&b (thats a different, but equally good review). Wandering round Ilfracombe, as a vegetarian, I wasn't sure what options there would be for a beautiful, delicious, romantic meal with my other half. We found The Capstone simply from wandering round the streets and checking the menu outside. We were relatively early diners on our night at the Capstone and the first people in the restaurant. The greeting was friendly, engaging and inviting. The right level of friendly chatty (which makes you laugh and smile with the conversation when its had) but with the knowledge of when it's appropriate to leave you alone and enjoy your meal out as a couple. Then the food came. We'd decided against a first course (to make room for dessert) and in the opinion of my other half it 'was the best meal of the visit'. He had the chicken and a smile on his face throughout. I had a vegi pasta - delicious. The menu changes frequently to make the most of fresh produce, according to our lovely host, which to some degree was slightly disappointing - but only because I want my cake and to eat it. Having seen some of the recent vegi menu options (the risotto and also the halumi and cous cous) they also sounded delicious and something I would have wanted to try if the trip had been longer. Speaking of cake and eating it.... OH.... MY.... WORD.... The Guinness chocolate cake.... bigger than I expected, it was certainly right to come with just a small amount of clotted cream (rich and tasty). As I said, the portion was generous and if you're like me and don't manage it all (the other half wolfed it down like he hadn't eaten in months), they very kindly provided me with a doggy bag! All in all a lovely atmosphere, great service and delicious food. My kind of evening out and I'd recommend to anyone thinking of a meal out in Ilfracombe. In fact, I already have and I've only been back a few days! | |   | Posted by Suz on 2009-06-09 20:02:45 |

| Address | The Old Bakery , The Promenade , Kingsbridge | | Comments | What a find. Not a vegetarian restaurant but gave Giorgo a challenge for one of the party. Came up with the most wonderful asparagus wrapped in what looked like shredded wheat but tasted wonderful. The ravioli of sweet potato with sage herb sauce was divine. The non veggie had crab with cucumber jelly - outstanding. Puds of Moroccan orange cake and coffee brulee were best ever. Can't wait to go back. Feel we should keep this a secret in case we can't get a table but that wouldn't help them in the long run. Staff and ambience complimented the great cooking. Wish they were round the corner from me. | |   | Posted by Liz Latham on 2009-06-06 20:13:04 |
| Address | 15 The Quay , , Brixham | | Comments | This was a real find, I was in Brixham and I wanted to make sure that I was going to be eating fish. About to settle for fish & chips when I spotted the No15 sign and menu. No15 looks out over Brixham Harbour and the view was made all the more exceptional by the lovely weather we were enjoying when I visited, the welcome was warm and the menu and my drink arrived promptly.
In the background I could hear a group of visitors apparently struggling to place their order when the waitress asked 'are you German', yes they replied, 'lets speak German then' she responded, where else could/would that happen in the UK?
Seafood Chowder to start with served with crusty bread and butter, it was delicious, full of all sorts of seafood, hot, creamy and absolutely lovely, I cannot recommend this enough and when I go back, as I surely will I doubt that I will be able to resist ordering it again. For my main course I ordered a Mixed Grill of Fish with 5 different types of fish including John Dorey, Mackerel, Plaice and two others that I am afraid I have forgotten the name of, along with a bowl of fresh vegetables and lovely potato chips cooked in their skins. I cannot comment on the dessert but the coffee was great and the beer was cold, the food was exceptional and the staff were even better. An excellent restaurant, I hope that the owner, the chef and the staff are as proud of it as I think they should be. | |   | Posted by John Miller on 2009-06-05 18:12:05 |
| Address | Station Road , Exton , Exeter | | Comments | We followed the signs to the inn whilst we were in the area last week and we found a treaure of a restaraunt. From the moment we stepped into the bar area and looked at the menu, we knew we wanted to eat here. The ambience and decor in the inn was only surpassed by the fantastic food, served with enthusiasm from an extremely efficient staff who had personality to burn. With such a varied menu accompanied by a wine list that would tantalise any pallette and the presentatation and quality of the food, you will miss out on a culinary heaven if you do not eat there if you live locally.I cannot recommend this restaraunt highly enough,if you are traveliing in the area, try it, you will not be disappointed. My thanks to the staff for making our visit such an enjoyable experiance,we will definitely go back here. | |   | Posted by Steve Taylor on 2009-06-05 16:36:26 |

| Address | Little Castle Street , , Exeter | | Comments | Went here for a birthday dinner. We were a large group and booked late but they were very helpful about squeezing us in. The waitress was incredibly friendly and very attentive despite how busy the restaurant was. The food was yum, but was of the huge slabs of meat rather than daintily prepared variety (they obviously have veggie options too). As for the restaurant itself, it's fantastically decorated with all sorts of odds and ends. All in all, a very atmospheric restaurant with fantastic staff and great food. | |   | Posted by Caroline on 2009-06-02 09:24:34 |

| Address | , , Bigbury | | Comments | Stayed at the Royal for two nights during a recent walk on part of the SWCP. The recently renovated rooms were very clean, airy, modern and comfortable. I ate in the restaurant on both nights and the food was well cooked and very flavoursome, with the seafood in particular being excellent. The beer was well kept and the staff were both friendly and knowledgable. All in all, an excellent choice all round and I believe, very good value for money. | |   | Posted by Alan Wilkins on 2009-05-26 18:43:07 |

| Address | 60 Notte Street , Barbican , Plymouth | | Comments | We went to the Notte Inn in Plymouth this weekend for a 40th birthday party. As soon as you walk through the door you feel at home in this welcoming inn. My husband tried the ales and was really impressed. The food was superb. There was a buffet style arrangement with food ranging from prawns to roast beef and the most delicious roast potatoes and gravy I have ever tasted. The staff were unobtrusive and maintained the buffet ensuring all the hot dishes were regularly changed and fresh brought out. We had a great evening and would highly recommend you going to The Notte Inn to see for yourselves! | |   | Posted by Debby Hubbard on 2009-05-24 20:01:03 |

| Address | 60 Notte Street , Barbican , Plymouth | | Comments | For £4.95, a curry and a pint is usually very good value, but do you expect a good restaurant experience and a lovely spicy chicken jalfrezi? Well I was nicely surprised with the separate dining area, courteous staff and a warm atmosphere. Would go back again for the curry or the specials board any time I visit Plymouth. | |   | Posted by Jonathan Bennett on 2009-05-21 09:36:25 |

| Address | Lawrence Road , Mount Batten , Plymouth | | Comments | I've just taken my family to Seawings restaurant for a sunday lunch with a difference. We were looking for a great sea view location with some great food (preferably seafood for a change on a Sunday) All I can say is WOW! I was a little apprehensive having never been to Seawings before, but it did not dissapoint. i had the blue cheese and basil rissoto, followed by the oven baked cod with linguine and tomato and chorizo sauce. Well cooked, fabulous presentation and very hot plates (a real pet hate if a restaurant gets this wrong!). The Knickerbocker Glory was the icing on the cake. What a dessert! A vast selection of fresh fruit, ice cream and jelly pieces in the iconic glass. It was like a lucky dip to see what was next on the spoon. All this with drinks and the best sea view in Plymouth for only £20 per head. Visit this restaurant now, i'll be booking again. | |   | Posted by Scott Zimbler on 2009-05-17 16:35:42 |
| Address | 54 Fore Street , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | We went to Basil's while on holiday a week or so ago. We had one of the best evenings we have ever had in a restaurant, and not just thanks to my sparkling conversation skills! The service was first class and the food was amazing...especially the mushroom stuffed chicken - heaven on a plate! My only complaint is that they haven't moved to my neighbourhood yet! | |   | Posted by Luke Aki on 2009-05-15 19:44:16 |

| Address | 62 Fore St , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | My husband and I stumbled across The Terrace Tapas and Wine Bar whilst waiting for a table at another restaurant. After sitting outside in the setting sun, drinking margaritas, and watching the mouthwatering food being delivered to others around us we decided to stay. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff genuinely friendly, providing brilliant service and the food was divinely delicious. My husband's parents live in Spain, so we chose the Spanish Selection. We thought it was some of the best tapas we had ever had and was certainly most authentic. The whole evening was an unexpected and deliciously relaxed surprise. Thank you.... | |   | Posted by Mel Cross on 2009-05-15 17:35:07 |
| Address | The Esplanade , , Sidmouth | | Comments | I most recently visited Dukes, last August ( 2008 ), whilst on holiday to Torquay, with my wife and daughter. We were on a day trip, as we hadn't been to Sidmouth in about five years. As in our previous visit, we made Dukes our stop-off point for lunch. This place is fantastic. They have a wonderful choice of menu/desserts and ales. The staff there ( just like last time ), were first class. We were served by a gorgeous young lady with dark hair, who's name escapes me, but told us her dad was originaly from Northern Ireland. Her personality is as lovely as her looks. If her boss is reading this, and recognises the young lady I am referring to - give her a pay rise, she is a credit to your establishment. Getting back to the food - that day both my wife and myself, had a scrumptious roast beef on granary bread sandwich, washed down with my favourite Otter Ale. First class. They are also child-friendly also, as my daughter was made very welcome. Another example of Best Of British cuisine and hospitality. Give Dukes a try - you won't be disappointed. | |   | Posted by Albert Thompson on 2009-05-14 15:26:08 |

| Address | 15 The Quay , , Brixham | | Comments | We recently dined at the No 15 restaurant on the recommendation of the Sunnybrook guest house. What a good choice - the meal was excellent (I had the most wonderful scallops as a main course) as was the friendly service. No rush to free the table and the setting on the quayside was delightful.

| Address | Cathedral Yard , , Exeter | | Comments | We popped in for a quick lunch and were very pleasantly surprised as no.21 is a hidden gem! I had the brie, avocado and red onion marmalade on open bloomer and it was so delicious I didn't want it to end. The side salad came with such a lovely lemon dressing that I asked for the recipe, it made my 5 year old eat salad willingly for the first time ever! Lovely fresh food, efficient unobtrusive service and reasonable prices made this a very enjoyable lunch. | |   | Posted by Claire Gregory on 2009-05-05 09:31:47 |

| Address | 60 Notte Street , Barbican , Plymouth | | Comments | The service is frist class, my wife has coeliac and the manger went out of the norm and got in wheat free rolls for her which made her feel normal. This sort of thing is very rare and the more expensive restaurants do not do this, also the chef and staff were so helpful. Would highly rate this restaurant for anyone who likes good food at great prices. | |   | Posted by kevin archer on 2009-05-02 21:31:32 |

| Address | , Muddiford , Barnstaple | | Comments | I took a party of 9 friends to the Muddiford Inn Restaurant to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. The whole experience was indeed OUTSTANDING in every way. The food and presentation was to a standard one would normally expect in a top London Restaurant but at very reasonable prices and plenty of it. The service was excellent with warm, friendly and efficient staff both in the restaurant and bar. The establishment is family owned and run. All the staff do their level best to make your dining experience unforgettable. For me and the members of my party they truly succeeded. My wife and I were even given anniversary gifts and the end of the evening! I shall be booking there again whenever I am in the Barnstaple area. Not to be missed, you will not be disappointed!

| Address | Steep Hill , Maidencombe , Torquay | | Comments | I first visited The Thatched Tavern, nr Torquay, last summer, whilst on holiday from Northern Ireland, with my wife and daughter.
We went there twice, both for lunch, and the food was first class. The first time. I tried one of their home-made steak pies - fantastic. The other time, I opted for Devon farmhouse sausages and mash. My wife, who is a very fussy eater, thought the food was great. They also have a very good dessert menu.
The staff too, were great, and were very friendly towards my young daughter.
It is well worth a visit, although in the evening, the bus service from Torquay, is less frequent. A well deserved 10 out of 10. Another Best Of British hostelry. | |   | Posted by Albert Thompson on 2009-04-22 12:33:35 |

| Address | The Old Bakery , The Promenade , Kingsbridge | | Comments | While visiting Kingsbridge and looking for somewhere different to relax and have a cup of coffee we came upon the Old Bakery. On entering we were warmly welcomed and invited to decide which of the sitting & eating areas we wanted to use which range from a simple country kitchen style to soft comfortable sofas. We chose the kitchen style and relaxed, read our papers and engaged in a wide range of conversarions with the staff. We came back the following day and this time took advantage of their wide and interesting lunch menu which offered varied and tasty food. The "hidden gems" of the Old Bakery is the very interesting use that has been made of old copper pipe fittings, cooking oil tins and the like as water cisterns, washbowl taps etc that all work perfectly. The whole decor is slightly "off the wall" but matches the enthusiastic style of the staff, food and good conversation in a very laid back and relaxing atmosphere. Forget your Costa Coffees and Planet Pizzas and visted the Old Bakery - you will not be disappointed!

| Address | 60 Notte Street , Barbican , Plymouth | | Comments | A friend who had been there previously and booked us in introduced me to the Notte Inn. A group of nine mostly mature men. The courses chosen, varied widely, but arrived well presented, hot (where required) and very tasty. I have since been back in a smaller group and found the same good attention, so much so I have just booked my birthday meal there next month, totalling 18 mixed friends and rising. This is a pub, reflected by the varying amount of customers and voice volume in the lower bar area and the good music. They also have to walk bye to use the bathrooms adjacent. Looking forward to my next visit where they would like to know an idea of orders in advance.

| Address | The Old Bakery , The Promenade , Kingsbridge | | Comments | This has got to be one of our favourite restaurants. The food is exquisite: tapas with a Greek twist, fresh, locally sourced, and absolutely delicious. Giorgio and his wife are delightful. Their attention to detail and fun, passionate approach makes this an incredibly enjoyable experience. The last time we ate here we met the farmer who supplies their Gloucester Old Spot pigs, from which they make their own chorizo, sausages and wonderful pork chops. A place where locally sourced actually means something. We struggle to find anywhere like this in London. | |   | Posted by Emily and Aidan on 2009-02-24 15:04:26 |

The food is excellent, with beautifully cooked fish, friendly staff who balance attentiveness with non intrusion, and a calm atmosphere.

| Address | Century Quay , Sutton Harbour , Plymouth | | Comments | The idea of this restaurant is simple: choose your meat, fish or tofu, select an accompaniment of fresh vegetables, then take your tray of goodies to the chef who will cook it in which ever style you fancy. You could have Malaysian, Cajun, Caribbean, Moroccan, Scandinavian, even Norman, the list goes on and on... Each dish is prepared expertly in front of you and is fresh and delicious.
The free starters are excellent too... the salmon and monkfish soup I had was to die for!
Our waiter couldn't do enough for us; he was attentive [without being overbearing] and left us feeling well cared for. Our chef was great too and cooked each dish to perfection. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience in a clean and relaxed atmosphere overlooking the quay.
I would recommend Cuisine Spontanee to anyone. | |   | Posted by Lou Dowling on 2009-02-05 10:41:38 |
| Address | 44 Babbacombe Rd , , Torquay | | Comments | We purchased a hotel very close to the Mirch in June 2007 and had a take-away whilst moving in. We can honestly say it was the best Indian food we have eaten in the UK. The prices are VERY reasonable, and the level of service you will receive, from Khan especially, is always excellent and they are very accommodating, adjusting or adapting dishes if necessary. We have not hesitated but to recommend The Mirch Masala to all our guest wishing to eat Indian whilst visiting Torquay. Personal favourites of ours are the starter - Momo, very tasty and the Butter Chicken - delicious. Well done Khan. | |   | Posted by Kate Wood on 2009-02-02 19:42:11 |

| Address | 22 Bampton St , , Tiverton | | Comments | Growing up and Maryland and living in the UK for 35 years I was slow to discover Devon.Until my mate retired there.Thats when I discovered Four &Twenty Blackbird Tea Room. Both of my grand mothers made wonderful hame made scones and trying my first creamed tea was reminiscent of my childhood visits to my grandmothers in the Apalacian Mountains.Of corse Devon Creamed Teas are the finest way to eat scones in the world. The essential ingrediant is the clotted cream so sweet and light. After trying a cremmed tea at Four and Twenty I tried creamed teas in Somerest and London. They couldn't touch the quality of Tiverton's best tea room. The scones there are made to perfection.Crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. | |   | Posted by Craig Runyon on 2009-01-28 07:52:49 |

| Address | 13a The Quay , , Brixham | | Comments | If you want a restaurant that provides excellent quality, value and an atmosphere that 'puts you at ease', then Shores Restaurant, of The Quay, Brixham will not disappoint. The staff, lead by the proprietor Sherry are professional, welcoming and amusing, making you very welcome. The food is excellently produced, with seasonal vegetables denoting the freshness of both the aquisistion and cooking. The fish is locally purchased as are the mussels (the same are to be found in the high class restaurants and hotels of London). But, the piece du resitance can only be the the incredible value of the two couse menu, either at £5 or £10, which includes a starter or main or main and desert. Many restaurants are good, but many in Brixham struggle. For an excellent experience, without pretention, visit Shores, the busiest restaurant in Brixham, by far. | |   | Posted by Neal Anthony Carter on 2008-12-26 14:27:22 |
| Address | 6-7 Fore Street , Topsham , Exeter | | Comments | Three friends and I recently had a wonderful lunchtime meal at Oliva Restaurant in Topsham. The light, airy and spacious eating area was very relaxing start to the meal. The food was glorious too - one friend is a vegetarian, another can't eat cheese and another has to follow a gluten-free diet, so we weren't the easiest of customers to please! However, all these dietary concerns were dealt with in a professional and cheerful way. The gluten-free friend actually had a dessert made especially for her - she was delighted as this is only the second time in many years that she has had a 'dietary fuss made of her in such a nice way'! Instead of being viewed as a 'nuisance', all our dietary issues were easily (or so it seemed to us!) overcome. Thoroughly recommended - many restaurants could learn from this positive attitude. Thanks so much! | |   | Posted by Kim McNeil on 2008-12-24 18:42:46 |

| Address | Unit 2 Fry St , , Holsworthy | | Comments | Whilst on holiday in november, me and my two children( 1 aged 14 and 1 aged 10,visited the delightful town of holsworthy, whilst there we had a meal at the bay of bengal indian resturant, the staff and owner were very helpful when it came to arranging a meal that my children would like aswell as one that i would enjoy. mild chilken curry and rice were the childrens favourite and i had very hot curry as used to it and love it.Rachel the propriator was exstremely freindly and gave childrens to many chocolates at the end of the meal (bless) but hay thats what treats r for. The cost was minimum but would have paid more just for the hospitallity which was given. I recommend that if in the area well worth popping in for a very good evening out that wont break the bank or your fondness for indian food. The food is superb with a wide range of beautifully cooked dishes all served with a smile. The food is always piping hot and attention to detail and what the customer wants always a priority. | Address | Sir John Hawkins Square , , Plymouth | | Comments | The mission is a tastefully refurbished chapel which has been decorated to accentuate and enhance the original features of the building. The high vaulted ceiling makes the restaurant feel spacious and airy, but comfortable seating and wooden floors make it warm and atmospheric. The location close to the city centre makes it a perfect location for a celebratory lunch. The menu is interesting and very reasonably priced. The food is excellent and very nicely presented. My overall impression was very favourable and I would definately go again. | |   | Posted by Heather Wood on 2008-11-08 20:32:12 |
| Address | 42 Breton Side , , Plymouth | | Comments | Ive been to this place twice now, both times with different menus and have to say i left completely satisfied each time. The first time i went the starter of peppers and goats cheese in a filo parcel was playing on my mind weeks later. Quite simply the most delicious starter i have ever had the pleasure of eating. The second time we went the menu had changed but my main course of haddock resotto was full of flavour, cooked perfectly and again left me wanting more. The restaurant is only small but really cosy and the staff were friendly and obliging both times. Plus you get to giggle like a child whilst making jokes about getting your partner or date, "into B.E.D." | |   | Posted by Andy Hammond on 2008-11-08 16:14:40 |

You always get a very warm welcome and regulars are made to feel part of the Zeus family. Even if you are not yet a regular customer, which I'm sure you soon will be, the friendly staff under owner Andrew Kallis make you very welcome.

| Address | Unit 1 Penrose House , Lockyers Quay , Plymouth | | Comments | This Indian Restaurant has not been open for long (late Summer 2008), but my goodness ... if you're staying at the nearby Premier Inns, there is no better place to eat in the vicinity. If not - get a taxi there ... you won't be sorry! With excellent service from the owner and his sister, together with members of the team like Rash and D., who take a REAL interest in what you do and what you think, this has to be one of the best (if not THE best) Indian Restaurant I've ever visited (and I'm a great fan of the Balti restaurants in Birmingham, where I'm based). My wife, work colleagues and even a BBC film crew we entertained there agree. Try the chef's magical specialties (including the starters). This is the first time I've been in an Indian Restaurant and the plates have been emptied! The flavours and moisture of the meals are incredible and the choice of dishes is fantastic. People of Plymouth ... GO THERE!!! This really is a jewel of a place and the prices are very reasonable (the portions have to be seen to be believed!). From entering the restaurant we were greeted by the friendly owner Alison who was very helpful and answered any questions we asked. We were seated by the window which was fantastic as we could see the world going by from the lovely views.
My husband and myself ordered our food which was served promptly and was very well presented.
I have to say that the steak was probably the best I have ever had and just melted in my mouth.
For dessert I had the home made chocolate brownie served with local icecream which was out of this world!
We had a lovely evening out and had first class food.

| Address | 35 Fore St , Topsham , Exeter | | Comments | La Petite Maison is a restaurant in Topsham, Devon, near Exeter.
The finest West Country cuisine from Exeter's finest restaurant in my opinion. Total quality ingredients used to compose some fantastic dishes.
We have visited on a number of occasions and never been let down by the excellent, attentive and unobtrusive service. The Dining Room is a cosy affair, with around 10 tables, split into two rooms, although open planned. Decorated with white table clothes and stylish chairs, the room combines the modern with some unique older features.
There is no hurry as they only aim for one sitting. The restaurant is family run and the couple and there helpers are very pleasant. The chef usually comes out at the end to check all has been ok!
And its always more than ok- the food is excellent, and the chef is equally adept at fish and meat. Always cooked to our preference, breads, cheese sticks and every thing else is cooked on the premises.
The webiste has uptodate menu plans and there is also a well thought and extensive wine list. This place deserves adulation and has won 'Taste of the West' awards. It's a real gem and deserves lots of success. | |   | Posted by Nick Davis on 2008-10-12 20:08:33 |

| Address | Church Street , Sidford , Sidmouth | | Comments | This resturant was recommended to me by a friend who frequents this establishment when down in Devon. The property was originally a Salt House used by Benedictine Monks who traded salt at Exeter Cathedral. As my husband and I like to go somewhere different for birthdays etc I decided to give it a go for his birthday. Unfortunately I could not get a table on the Saturday night as they were fully booked so opted for the Friday evening. The ambiance of the resturant was lovely; upon arriving we were seated in the lounge which is still olde worlde and comfortable and brought olives and nibbles whilst perusing the menu (which you can also view sample menues on their website)and having pre dinner drinks. Orders were taken while in the lounge and taken to our table when called. Prior to our starter we were brought a complimentary dish which was superb and totally unexpected. The warm homemade breadrolls and water (still or sparkling) were complimentary which makes a change in this day and age. The food (wonderful deserts), presentation, service and friendliness of all the staff was excellant. Coffee and Petit Fours could be taken either at the table or in the lounge. Although a Friday night I was surprised that all tables were fully booked. While I could not afford to eat here every week it is definately a resturant I will go to again and recommend to friends. | |   | Posted by Sandra on 2008-10-11 17:12:23 |
| Address | , Muddiford , Barnstaple | | Comments | I went to the Muddiford Inn to eat for the first time on Sunday 5th October. I have to say this is by far the best roast dinner I have ever had. It was fantastic and it was reasonable in price. You could really tell that everything was high quality, fresh and home made. I followed with Sticky Toffee Pudding which I unfortunately could not finish but it was to the same standard as the main course. The service was also really very good. A real family run pub with all the charm you would expect and a wonderful large log burning fire adds that little extra cosy feel.
The menu is a good size with lots of choice. It seems it changes on a regular basis as well. We ate in the pub/bar area as it was nice and cosy – however joined to this there is a well presented restaurant area if you prefer - It has a good capacity. There is a good sized car park as well.
Before another penny is wasted on lesser quality (especially carverys) at a similar price of around £7-8. Give this one a try!
I will certainly be making a habit of visiting and would highly recommend it to anyone!!!!!!!!

| Address | Sir John Hawkins Square , , Plymouth | | Comments | My boyfriend treated me to lunch at The Mission which was thoroughly enjoyable. As he booked beforehand we were seated on the top table at the restaurant. The food was exceptional, staff were very polite and friendly and the ambience of the restaurant is definitely worth experiencing. To explain the tasteful decor in this review would spoil the surprise. We had The Mission recommended to us and we will certainly do the same to our family and friends. Check it out for yourself, you will not be disappointed. | |   | Posted by Miss Judith Sinclair on 2008-10-06 21:40:50 |

| Address | Within Woodford Bridge Hotel , Milton Damerel , Holsworthy | | Comments | Highly recommended, food is excellent, we started with the Crevettes, what a wonderful way to get started, I chose the wild boar as my main course, the others had the Sea Bass, really enjoyable, to finish the Sticky Toffee pudding, (taking you back to bonfire night & the taste of burnt toffee)a real treat. The staff are a delight, all youngsters going out of their way to be helpful & always smiling, a lovely atmosphere. A most enjoyable evening. | |   | Posted by Rose on 2008-10-04 16:07:34 |

| Address | 150 Cornwall Street , , Plymouth | | Comments | Excellent value for money, food of high quality cooked to perfection! Good honest food at honest prices. Recommend the kebabs (delicious chicken, pitta bread full of fresh salad), the moussaka (vegetable or meat) - in fact, every meal we have eaten has been excellent and we eat there three or four times a week. Very friendly and attentive staff, especially the owner, Andrew, who really makes everyone feel welcome. Have recommended this restaurant to all my friends and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. | |   | Posted by Karen Ward on 2008-09-30 17:06:33 |
| Address | 1 St Lawrence , , Crediton | | Comments | I have to let you know how good this restaurant is after having an excellent night here on saturday night. The four of us were met by genuinely friendly and helpful staff (and the owner i think), and we were all immediately struck by the care and ambience of the tasteful decor. What i understand to have been a wine bar in a previous carnation has been adapted to a homely and medeterrainian effect. We went straight for four main courses and my veal in marsala sauce with seasonal veg was cooked to perfection and went down a treat with a reasonabley priced glass of house red. My partners chicken provoked similar praise. Desserts seemed to have evoked an equal amount of praise from all of us - 2 lemon cheesecakes (light and zesty), apple and caramel pie (sweet and delicous) and panna-cotta (creamy and light also) were met by favourable reviews. Our guests were suitable suprised that in the middle of Crediton (to the outsider, a sleepy farming town), could produced such a delightful find in Casita Ristorante. For an italian restaurant it was so refreshing not to be met by a menu with reams of pizzas and pasta with a small section of 'Other dishes'. Excellent Italian dishes with local taste. Really recommended. | |   | Posted by Chris Angell on 2008-09-29 15:54:44 |

| Address | 63 Fore St , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | We recently spent a few days in Ilfracombe and this was one of the restaurants recommended by our hotel. From the evening menu I had the parsnip soup as a starter followed by duck. The soup was possibly one of the best I had ever eaten. The duck was perfectly cooked, tender with a crispy skin.I felt that the accompanying champ would have benefitted from a little extra seasoning, but otherwise it was excellent. The previous evenig we had eaten at The Quay and this meal was certainly as good. The service was good without being intrusive.Another couple from our hotel were at the next table and they agreed with us on the high standard of the food and service. | |   | Posted by Janet Nicholson on 2008-09-21 10:29:39 |
| Address | Yarcombe , , Honiton | | Comments | Friendly welcome to the newly refurbished pub by the owner(opened the previous day!) Service was quick, food delicious and obviously homecooked. Excellent menu choice - not extensive and hard to choose, but suitable for all tastes. Children made to feel very welcome and their menu was the same as the adults, just smaller, cheaper portions. Prices reasonable. We will be going back again. | |   | Posted by Liz on 2008-09-17 19:03:54 |

| Address | Torquay Road , Kingskerswell , Newton Abbot | | Comments | We go to the Hare & Hounds on a regular basis (It's that Good!) mostly for the carvery on a Sunday. It is truly excellent, fresh choice of meats and plenty of it, the veg is also very good with a good variety and wide selection. And after your dinner, the dessert trolly, I recomend your don't eat too much dinner (hard to do) as the desserts served are BIG and delicious. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, and the general layout is clean and bright. It is easy for me to be so enthusastic about the Hare & Hounds, but you really must try it yourself and you will see that it's all true. If you go for the carvery, you must book as it gets really busy, when you try it you'll know why! So go and enjoy, you won't be dissapointed. | |   | Posted by George & Christine Wilford on 2008-09-09 11:57:00 |
| Address | Little Castle Street , , Exeter | | Comments | I have had many an enjoyable meals at the Old Timers over several years, from their pizza & pint to selecting a meal from their main menu, whether on my own or with friends. I have always found the food to be of excellent quality, excellent value for money, together with pleasant surroundings, good service, friendly chefs and bar staff. It is with great anticipation that I revisit Old Timers for a business reunion later this month (Sept), and as I note that the same chefs are still working there, I'm sure I will not be disappointed. We had the pleasure of having a dinner in Steamers and it was by far the best food I have ever tried, the vegetables were fresh and cooked to perfection,my fish dish was out of this world and my husbands was extremely pleased with his steak. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone, it is classy, stylish and modern and yet relaxing and with the added bonus of being able to see your food being prepared in kitchen. Run by the immaculate Chef Steve, who's culinary experience includes working on the QE2, and his affable partner Julie, Ilcasita menu is fresh, very good value, well presented and varied. | Address | 62 Fore St , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | This is a gem of a restaurant hidden halfway down Fore street and in many ways I am pleased that it is hidden away. I would hate to think I had to miss out on a table as my family all look forward to a night out at the friendly family owned Terrace Tapas Bar on our visits to Ilfracombe. Tapas heaven, authentic dishes served with panache and cooked with care, the regular dishes complimented by alternating specials, the oak smoked chicken in paprika is excellent as are the pinchos with 21 day aged rump, melt in the mouth, foaming chilled draught san miguel , some excellent spanish wines and the service is exceptional. Well done Mark and Kelly and your great team, you have the special recipe for success, long may you prosper.

| Address | 13a The Quay , , Brixham | | Comments | Excellent meal. The sea bass was fresh and cooked while we waited. The vegetables were obviously fresh and steamed to retain full flavour. In fact after visiting restaurants all over the U.K. and Europe, I can honestly say that I have never been served such good quality. Obviously you do have to wait a while for the food to arrive. The staff are very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Young children are welcome and the meal was very good value. | |   | Posted by Steve Crane on 2008-08-12 15:46:32 |

I saw "71" on the internet and booked a table well in advance. We live in Essex. We looked for the restaurant when we arrived and I must admit were slightly put off by the facade. I am just so glad that we didn't make the mistake of cancelling the booking. The staff were very polite and friendly and the food was excellent, probably the best meal I have very eaten in Ilfracombe. Not only can he make the best steak and kidney pie I've ever tasted, he can cook fish without messing it around and lets the freshness and flavour speak for itself. Now ,I've eaten a few puddings in my time and the apple pie and carrot cake my companion had were so good we very nearly ordered a double portion. Seaspray is simply the best, simple and the best. | Address | 62 Fore St , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | The Terrace is simply a wonderful place to eat, with friendly, helpful staff and a full, varied menu. During our week in Ilfracombe, we ate there on 3 occasions and tried different dishes each time! Our 9 year old loved the nachos and the cheese fondu, we enjoyed a combination of vegetarian and meat dishes, and particularly appreciated the Tapas Banquet for 2, which was very good value indeed. Children are made very welcome at The Terrace although it still feels a very grown up place to eat in the evening. We loved everything about it, and shall certainly be visiting again when we return to north Devon in the future. | |   | Posted by Clare Wilson-Jarvis on 2008-08-06 10:50:43 |

I started with scallops which seemed to melt in the mouth, and then had the lamb, interestingly presented, with two types of meat - both beautifully tender and flavoursome. 3 courses, 2 glasses of wine and coffee came to £37 - quite reasonable for the quality. | |   | Posted by Peter Barnett on 2008-07-28 14:34:32 |
| Address | , , Bigbury | | Comments | I visited The Royal Oak in Bigbury earlier this month with my girlfriend. We chose the Royal Oak as a ‘stopping point’ and stayed for 1 night before heading onto Salcombe. The food was fantastic and the service was first class. Just a little tip for you, if the belly pork with root vegetables is on the special’s board, make sure you order it. It’s the best pork I have ever tasted and is an absolute must have! The B&B was exactly what we needed. Our room had a fantastic view out towards the coast and the lovely breakfast certainly sets you up for the day!
All in all, we were made to feel very welcome and would highly recommend a stay at The Royal Oak. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing break.

I would highly recommend the bistro for any occasion, whether a quiet meal or with a group of people. There is no other place in Okehampton that tops it! | |   | Posted by Louise Cohen on 2008-07-08 14:07:45 |

| Address | , , Bigbury | | Comments | I stumbled across this place whilst travelling back from a Burgh Island visit, and my, what a find! The portions were generous, reasonable and delicious. All local fresh produce is on the menu and the beer battered cod was fantastic as were the range of lovely vegetarian options.
The staff and atmosphere were very welcoming and relaxing and I understand that the new owners have some grand plans for this place! Overall, i would give The Royal Oak a 5 star rating and can't wait to return. Thank you! | |   | Posted by Sarah Banver on 2008-07-05 20:06:01 |

| Address | 71 Fore Street , , Ilfracombe | | Comments | Comprised of both a fantastic selection of food and wine accompanied with a nice friendly service and relaxing atmosphere. This restaurant is without a shadow of doubt the best place to eat in Ilfracombe if not Devon. I had took my family to Seventy One when holidaying in Ilfracombe and do not regret it for a moment. The restaurant had made such an impression on our first night that we ensured that we ate there on more than one occasion in our short one week stay. I would confidently recommend to all. | |   | Posted by Daniel Kapp on 2008-07-01 19:02:03 |
| Address | , Muddiford , Barnstaple | | Comments | We ate at the Muddiford Inn twice during our stay in North Devon.
The first evening we ate from the restaurant menu with both my husband and I having a starter of lobster and prawn cocktail. This was lovely and tasty but could have done to have a bit more lobster! I then had the rack of lamb... this was wonderful. The lamb was cooked perfectly and my husband had sea bass that was also very tasty.
On our second visit we had the bar menu... a cheese ploughmnas sandwich and curly fries went down a treat and the gammon again was great!
The atmosphere in the pub was relaxed and a dog friendly place too! Our dog really enjoyed her take away food... thank you!!!
We would definitely recommend the Muddiford Inn to anyone who is staying nearby.

| Address | , Muddiford , Barnstaple | | Comments | Really enjoyed the mushroom/beef pie - was great. The missus enjoyed her soup and freshly baked bread. Staff were nice and allowed me to use their phone to call local taxi as there was no chance of getting any reception on my mobile. | |   | Posted by Mr Scott on 2008-06-27 15:48:55 |
| Address | The Old Bakery , The Promenade , Kingsbridge | | Comments | A really delightful restaurant, with helpful staff and charming owners located in the heart of this lovely Devon town. On offer is a (thankfully) brief menu offering delicious and inspired modern cuisine cooked and presented to perfection. The Old Bakery could be the (new) New Angel. Highly recommended - will definitely revisit again soon. | |   | Posted by FWBV on 2008-06-23 13:53:04 |
| Address | , , Bigbury | | Comments | We dined here several times on our weeks holiday as we found the staff so friendly and helpful, particularly the young waiter. We found the food to be of a good standard, portion sizes were enourmous and it really was excellent value for money compared to other pubs in the area.
Can't wait to visit again next year. | |   | Posted by Lorraine Shave on 2008-06-23 11:36:20 |
